As announced yesterday (sorry I've been out of it the past couple days) the Dragon Quest series is coming to the DS. But this isn't just some DQ offshoot like Rocket Slime (which was actually pretty awesome), it's the actual continuation of the series - Dragon Quest IX (is that a peach in the title art?). Like you know how DQ8 was on the PS2? And a huge Japanese hit? Kinda like that. Except on the DS. And it's going to be #9.

Kinda shocking? Not really. The DS is HUGE! Though the idea that Sony let their biggest selling game ever (in Japan) get away from them is a little surprising though they seem to be doing a lot of that lately. I guess it shows how little faith Square Enix, among others, has in Sony these days. Besides I'm sure it's easier (and cheaper) to make a kickass Dragon Quest on the DS than on the PS3. Though I certainly don't doubt the appearance of the series on the PS3 in the future…

Personally, I find the thought of sitting down with an RPG these days to be quite daunting. However, if I had one that I could pick up and take with me and kill a few goblins on the on the subway then that's a different story…
