Microsoft Unveils Zune

Today Microsoft showed off their oft-discussed but never seen iPod "killer" known as the Zune.

The Zune will have the fairly basic iPod-esque features but also has WiFi and allows for quick and easy file sharing.

Here is what we know:

- 30GB HDD

- WiFi

- FM Radio

- 3-inch Screen

The file sharing does have it's limits however as Engadget had this to report:

"you can share a full-length track with a friend, and they've got three times to listen to it over a three day period, after which they can flag the song for purchase on the Zune Marketplace — unless they're an unlimited "Zune Pass" subscriber"

"You can also share playlists and pictures with your buddies, along with what we suppose are 'unprotected' homemade recordings."

The Zune will also come in Black, White and Doo Doo Brown. *Shrug*

Not mentioned however was a price or release date.

Doubtful I would get one of these anytime soon but if anyone can finally give iPod a run for it's huge mountain of money it's Microsoft.

One thing I'd like to know is where along the line did everything have to be given a goofy name? Zune. Wii. Google. Yahoo! I mean I get that it's all branding and they are easy to remember and type into a web browser, etc. but why not stuff that actually means something or at least sounds cool? Like say, "Murderbox". Who wouldn't buy something called a "Murderbox"?! Just sayin'.
