Wii To Offer Voice Recognition?
Videogamesblogger.com has picked up on a bit of info posted on the IGN boards by an "inside" source who has in the past been spot-on with Wii info regarding the controllers built-in speaker.
This latest rumor states that the Wii will also offer voice recognition via a wireless headset that can censor crude language.
"Voice communication will be via wireless, head-mounted microphones," The source says."Many Nintendo first party games (specifically games designed for a younger audience) will feature a new system currently being developed by Nintendo called "voice to text communication." Apparently, this system also allows online voice communication to be easily censored by the player.
As well, the post mentions hints on Wii/DS compatibility saying "some peripherals for the DS will be compatible with Wii and vice-versa."
None of this should come as a particular shock as Nintendo has been working on perfecting voice recognition tech for their systems as well as cross-platform compatibility for many years. Though there are obvious kinks in their system as evidenced by the DS's "BLUE vs. LUE" problem for Brain Age.
A few weeks ago I had a chance to try out the Wii and after giving the controller a good looking over I hoped turning the thing into some sort of Wayne Newton-esque mic for a karaoke game would be a no-brainer…
